Post-event Summary

On Saturday, September 30th at 7pm we organized a poetry reading event at Books & Company in Oconomowoc, WI in honor of this year’s 100 Thousand Poets for Change celebration. We had about 15 poets sign up for the event, with more readers who showed up on the night, including: Judy Bridges, Paula Schulz, Cristina Norcross, Jo Balistreri, Janet Leahy, Jim Landwehr, Christine Swanberg (sent poems in her absence), Sarah Sadie, Fred Kreutz, Ruth McArthur, Betsy Bleck, Catherine Jagoe, and Gary Ketchum. We had a poetry open mic, with guest musical performances by Jacqueline Nicholson, door prizes, and a chance to come together in unity through the arts. Readers shared poems about world peace, social justice, environmental preservation, and healing. We also gave away chocolates with the typed message: “Create Peace” / “Spread Kindness” / “Be the Change.” We were very fortunate to raise donations on the evening for the Oconomowoc Public Library. With the funds raised, they were able to buy titles about peace, social justice, and acceptance for their children’s department. Very honored that we were able to contribute to the energy of this worthy movement for peace. Thank you so much to Michael Rothenberg for including our event listing on the 100TPC blog.
