REGULATION

 

Art. 1 – Organization and purpose

The Syracusan Cultural Committee (henceforth only Committee), at the suggestion of Professor ELLA CIULLA, adheres to the eighth edition of the Festival of Contemporary Arts “100THOUSAND ARTISTS FOR CHANGE”, world event, born in California in 2011, which aims Culture of Peace through all the arts, music and poetry in particular, in order to sensitize all societies to a profound social, moral and environmental change, in response to the current historical crisis, through a widespread sensitization to all expressions of Beauty.

The Committee is constituted by the union of the most authoritative artistic and cultural associations of the territory, such as:1. ARCADIA 88 – Music Association2. ARTISTIC FOUNDATION 3. CENTER OF ARTS AND SCIENCE STUDIES “IL CERCHIO”4. C.S.T.B. – STUDY CENTER OF POPULAR TRADITIONS “TURIDDU BELLA”5. SIRACUSANA PHOTOS     6. LE MUSE – Cultural AssociationTo achieve the aforementioned purpose, the following club services have also given their collaborative availability:1. SYRACUSE LIONS HOST2. KIWANIS CLUBThe legal representation of the Committee is assumed by the Center of Arts and Sciences Studies “IL CERCHIO”, Syracuse (Italy, Sicily).

Art. 2 – Competition announcement

In accordance with the provisions of the World Organization, the “100THOUSAND ARTISTS FOR CHANGE” Award is announced for the year 2018, and it will culminate on September 29th with an event-show – simultaneously with other cities in all the countries will join initiative – through which the artists will launch important messages of peace, brotherhood and social redemption in defense of human rights and the environment.The themes chosen for the current year, on which to focus the artistic productions, are:1) The Woman, the darkened Goddess2) “Divide and rule”: myth of past ages3) Mother Earth, the living planetIn particular, the Award has the clear purpose of promoting, through art, the culture of respect for women, the removal of all forms of human and social discrimination and respect for nature, our motherland.

Art. 3 – The sections of the Award

The competition is divided into three sections: Poetry, Painting and Contemporary Photography. There is also a fourth section dedicated to music, song and dance whose artists will perform on the express invitation of a special jury.

                                       Section A: Poetry

Published or unpublished texts are allowed, in Italian or in Sicilian dialect (provided they are accompanied by an Italian translation), even if already awarded in other literary competitions. Please do not exceed the length of 35 lines including title and intermediate spaces. The works, inspired by one or more themes as indicated above, must be strictly anonymous and not show evident signs of recognition. The works that do not observe the following rules will be trashed.Each author can submit a single text in a file (word or pdf) in addition to the Application Form and a copy of the participation fee’s payment. The jury, composed of the presidents of the cultural associations belonging to the Committee, will select among all the arrived compositions and in order with the superior provisions, twenty finalist works among which identify a first, a second and a third prize. All the other compositions are understood to have arrived at the 4th place ex aequo. The 20 finalist poems will be recited, during the show-ceremony on September 29th, by the authors themselves or their delegates.The e-mail address to be used for sending the documents of Section A is: segreteriaccs.poesia@libero.it

                                      Section B: Painting

The competition is open to students and artists (minimum age: 18 years), of both sexes and of all nationalities; each artist can participate with just one work on one of the concept themes. Each work must be accompanied by a written thought that illustrates the concept (max 400 characters). The jury will exclude work that is off-topic or not considered suitable.To take part in the event, the artists will have to send to the e-mail address of the Award Secretariat (Section B: Painting) the Application Form (duly completed and signed) with description and data of the work (size, format, technique), and a picture of the work (with a maximum weight of 1MB, resolution 200 dpi) attached to the email with the subject “100THOUSAND ARTISTS FOR CHANGE”.In order to facilitate registration procedures, a copy of the participation fee’s payment must also be attached. The body of the email must contain: name, surname, date and place of birth, address of residence, telephone number, title of the work. The work in competition (the photo) must be free of any reference to the author (including signature).The size of the works (excluding the frames) must not be less than cm. 30×35 and above cm.50×70.The e-mail address to be used for participation in the Competition – Section B is: segreteriaccs.arte@libero.it

A jury will select 20 works (in photo). The selected authors will then have to present the physical work, which will constitute the Collective of Contemporary Art that will be set up for the show-event on September 29th.The organization assumes no responsibility for any damages caused by accidental events or other causes.

                                            Section C: Photography

The rules set out for painting are valid for this section too. The photos can be made with any technique and have a maximum size of cm 50×70.Also in this case a special jury will select 20 finalist photos, whose prints will be edited by the same authors – in the maximum dimensions set out above – and presented on any support.All the selected works will constitute the Collective of Contemporary Art that will be set up for the show-event on September 29th.The e-mail address to be used for submitting the entries for the Section C competition is: segreteriaccs.photo@libero.it 

Art. 4 – Rules common to the three sections

Each author can participate in one or more sections. Deadline for submission: 15 June 2018.

To partially cover the management costs, the Award provides for an entry fee of EUR 10.00 (Eur ten) for each work participating in the Competition, to be paid:1) by bank transfer to Ce.S.A.S. IL CERCHIO IBAN: IT94 TO33 5901 6001 00000142917; or2) through PostePay service, card number 5333 1710 6117 6877, payable to Luca Campi   CMPLCU60L19L319H at any licensed tobacconist; or 3) to be paid shortly after telephone contact with the Committee Secretariat.It is recommended to attach to the registration e-mail the Application Form, the file of the work in competition and a copy of the registration fee’s payment. All correspondence should be sent exclusively to the secretary of the three sections, as indicated above.

Art. 5 – Awards and acknowledgments

The juries will choose N. 20 finalists for each of the three SECTIONS, which will be presented during the awards ceremony on September 29th. All the Competition documentation and the audiovisual recordings of the event will be deposited in the archives of the Center of Arts and Science Studies IL CERCHIO of Syracuse (Italy, Sicily)) and in the world promoter Stanford University archives – California U.S.A. All participants can later request, at their own expense, a video copy of the event. The finalist authors classified in SECTION A – POETRY will be invited to participate to the poetry reading on September 29th, availing the reading / acting of a professional actor / actress.Some names among the most representative of Italian Literature and Criticism will be guests of the event.A poetic anthology will collect (at the authors’ request and at the conditions that will be later communicated) the most deserving works at the discretion of the Jury. To the most deserving works among the 20 finalist authors of each art section, a first, a second and a third prize (consisting of silver plaques and/or crystal trophies) will be awarded. To the first classified of each sections, a free two-night stay will be offered too (if the winners live over 150 km away from the city of Syracuse). All participants will receive a diploma of participation, in the spirit of adherence to the goals of peace and tolerance advocated by the World Organization.

Art. 6 – Results

The results of the Award will be communicated to the finalist artists on July 30th, 2018 and published in the local newspapers and on different social media.

Art. 7 – Composition of the juries

The juries are generally composed of the presidents of the associations belonging to the Committee (or their qualified delegates). The names of the juries members will be published after the deadline for submission.The evaluations of the works in competition are anonymous. The judgments of the juries are unquestionable and unappealable.

SECTION D – MUSIC / SONG / DANCE: the jury will select the artists who will perform in the evening-show on September 29th, whose artistic coordination is curated by Ella Ciulla and Paolo Greco.

     AGREEMENT PROTOCOL  Today, March 13, 2018, at 17.30, at the premises of the Center of Arts and Science Studies “IL CERCHIO”, in Syracuse (Italy, Sicily) – at the suggestion of Ella Ciulla, project’s promoter and general coordinator – the representatives of the following Cultural Societies met:1. ARCADIA 88 – Music Association2. ARTISTIC FOUNDATION 3. CENTER OF ARTS AND SCIENCE STUDIES “IL CERCHIO”4. C.S.T.B. STUDIES CENTER OF POPULAR TRADITIONS “TURIDDU BELLA”5. SIRACUSANA PHOTOS6. LE MUSE Cultural Association The meeting aims to set up the “SYRACUSAN CULTURAL COMMITTEE”, with the Center of Arts and Science Studies “IL CERCHIO” as legal representative. The Committee has the primary purpose of promoting the “100MILA ARTISTS FOR CHANGE” event, scheduled in Syracuse (Italy, Sicily) for September 29, 2018, providing for the activation of a Poetry / Painting / Contemporary Photography Prize (see REGULATION) and for a final awards ceremony show. The Secretariat of the Committee is entrusted to Mr. Luca Campi. The project, also for future editions, remains attributed to the current organizer, Professor Ella Ciulla. This document has a limited expiry date and in any case no later than September 30th 2018. All the parties agree to equally contribute to advertising and implementation of the event, involving their own artistic resources and activating all those useful initiatives (fund raising) for its success. Regarding production costs, it is established that the performance of all the artists, services and the necessary materials to set up the show on September 29th, 2018 are to be understood as FREE, as well as the use of the Ce.S.A.S. IL CERCHIO premises and secretariat, and all the other components (jury members, etc) involvement.In this regard it is also established to contact the local authorities and private sponsors, considering the registration fee of EUR 10.00, requested to the participant artists, just a contribution for the material prizes (parchments, trophies, etc). All the obtained contributions – financial support from public or similar bodies, donations from individuals, registration fees, etc – will be used respecting the relative costs, according to the following priority steps: 1) Prizes for the Competition finalists 2) Service 3) Gratifications to the performing artists Read, approved and signed today

Poetry Section

– First prize awarded to “Lighea” by Santo Lo Curzio;

– Second Prize awarded to “The woman tree” by Sara La Pira;

– Third prize awarded to «The beating of the pearl» by Rita Cristillo.

The remaining poems were all classified in fourth place ex-aequo. They are:

Furthermore, the Cultural Committee of Siracusa has attributed – in addition to the twenty finalist works selected by the Jury – a particular recognition to the following Artists:

– Uccia Cannistraci with «A Lidia» and Nadio Grigis with «Mother Earth, the living planet», with the mention of «Artist who lives farther away» ex-aequo;

– Lori Angiolini with «Being a Woman», with the mention of «Older Artist»;

– Giovanna Scutiero with «I will collect narcissi», Donato Tambone with «Drop of Light» and Nicola Viceconti with «Transformations», for having argued about the possible change of human society and a future more on a human scale as «aims hoped for by the competition»;

– Renzo Cammarana with «Ognina», for the tribute dedicated to the «host city of the event».
