Building on last year’s experience of 100 TPC, our edition of this event for September 29th, 2012 has been expanded in location, vision and scope. First, we have transferred this activity from inside campus to a city space, and allowed it to happen in the public cultural centre whose name carries the utmost significance to the spirit of the place and to the spirit of our undertaking. We thereby, also underline the importance of promoting links between the Moroccan State University and its social and cultural environment. Secondly, we have implicated three of the most performed and renowned NGO associations in the area. Our objective, on this level, is to involve multi-ethnic, multi-cultural Moroccan civil society in programmes for the development of cultural awareness and the raising of consciousness. Finally, we have added music (Jazz, Rap) and song ( Amazigh) to the spoken word poetry reading.

Thousand Poets for Change event in Agadir, Morocco was undeniably successful. We organized a student poet competition in the morning from 10 to 2 pm. Both the dean and the president of the university of Ibn Zohr honored us by their presence and they were kind enough to offer precious rewards to the winners. The judging committee was of such a high caliber since it included some internationally renowned poets/ writers like Zahra Mansouri, the winner of Arab Thought Foundation literary award in 2009 for her novel ““Man Youbki Al Nawares”; Abdessalam Fizazi, writer and supervisor of Student Poetry Club at Ibn Zohr University; Touria Nakkouch, Comparative Studies MA coordinator and ex-winner of British Council poetry award, and the great fervent admirer of jazz and spoken word guru, Moe Seager and others. The readings were in different languages: Tamazight, Arabic, French and English. The music band Issdwass has also thrilled the audience with such memorable classical songs as those sung by the famous revolutionary Amazigh band Iznzarn. More to come!
