GIRL CHILD CREATIVITY PRESS RELEASE

0n the 29th of September, Girl Child Creativity (GCC) is hosting the Girl child Voices Fiesta which will see poets and young musicians showcasing their talent and creativity.

The fiesta is commemorated in line the project dubbed 100 Thousand Poets for Change.

The change expressed here is a shift and a transformation from what our artistic cultural norms used to do their things.
This great opportunity is given to Zimbabwe because we have moved an extra mile in promoting and balancing Girlchild Voices through creativity and arts.

On our future projects we have The Nigeria- Zimbabwe Literary Exchange which will be held early October.

The program is a combination of Zimbabwean poets and Nigerian poets who seek to promote intercultural and creative exchange through poetry.

It will see the printing of 100 page poetry anthology of rising voices of Zimbabwe and Nigeria.

It is combination of the GCC Project and the Society of Nigerian young authors, the submission guidelines are found on our sites and writers Afrika site as well as Naija stories site.

A number of young poets both in Zimbabwe and Nigeria are contributing.

(AN ANTHOLOGY OF POEMS)

Zimbabwe/Nigeria Literary Exchange

FOR YOUNG POETS RESIDING IN ZIMBABWE AND NIGERIA

The idea behind this collaboration is to create a literary and creative exchange between the young poets of Zimbabwe and Nigeria. The project is also geared towards publishing the unpublished poets residing in the both countries.
Aims of the Project

• To network and link young poets from both countries together.

• To enhance, hone and sharpen the literary creativity of the people involved.
To discover new literary talents.

• To produce an anthology (Both in Printed and E-Book Format).

• To share literary custom, tradition, ethics, history and culture through written poems.

• To promote the spirit of literary unity in Africa
Eligibility

• Language Medium – English

• Poetry Type – Any.

• Participants should be between the ages of 10 and 35.

• Poems should be between the minimum of 10 lines and maximum of 50lines.

• Entrants should include the followings alongside their works – Country, State, Age, Location, Short Profile, Where you heard about the Call for Entries, Tel. No. and A Sentence of not more than 50 words describing the poem.

• Permission to publish your work among the shortlisted entries.

• All entries must be submitted to: societyofyoungnigerianwriters@gmail.com and copy to girlchildcreativity@gmail.com, mbizoc@yahoo.co.uk latest by December 31st, 2012.

• Any signs of plagiarism may disqualify the contestant.

The Nigerian Embassy in Zimbabwe is assisting with some small resources for the Girl child Voices Fiesta , the Press BRIEFING and the contributors orientation workshop.zim gossip modelling agency contributed towards Press briefing logistics and snacks, The Public Affairs remains an all weather friend to the GirlChildCreativity by Providing Communication and Internet platform and other materials that might be needed. The book cafe plays a crucial part in offering venues and marketing of our events.

Partners Briefs

Zim Gossip Modelling Agency- a modelling , beauty grooming entity that have discovered big names like Malaika Mushandu and they have done a number of powerful advert photo and beauty extravaganzas. The Agency was founded by Mercy Mushaninga,who is also running Miss Curvy.

Nigerian Embassy- Assisting in the Nigeria-Zimbabwe Literary Project ,the Fiesta and helping in the authenticating of the idea of creative/cultural exchange .This is done through the Education ,cultural and information department of the Embassy.
Us Public Affairs Section of the American Embassy- have been with GirlChildCreativity Project since its inception , gave books during our writers contests, financial resources on our Project familiarisation drive.Bankrolled our 2011 main workshops in Harare and Bulawayo respectively .Sharon Hudson and her team played a very crucial in the visibility of Girlchildcreativity Project. They offer us space on Admin, Internet and Communication.

Pamberi Trust/Book Cafe – A culture centre that have offered venues ,refreshments and Marketing of our events.

BACKGROUND

In 2011 Girlchild creativity project was founded to mitigate the underrepresentation of young female artists and young girls in areas of creativity, creative writing, performance arts, readership and literacy culture development, www.girlchildcreativity.blogspot.com.

A Number of activities in form motivational workshops, practical creative writing seminars, girl talent voices showcases, food for thought and Mind Blast seminars were held in and outside Harare.

In 2012 one notable event was the GirlChild Creativity and Midlands State University Partnership in the recognition of girlchildtalent through theatre held at the Book Cafe in April 2012.

In June and august 2011, the project team held several workshops at Chiedza childcare centre in Waterfalls and the Premier Private College in Hatcliffe.

A number of writing contests were held. The team had seminars on creativity and talent motivation in other parts of Harare, Gweru and Bulawayo.

However, funding in any project remains a challenge but we are still struggling and hoping for the good.
Future Activities- Girl Child Talent Festival , the program will young girl girls in an artist in resident program that will culminate into a talent showcase and a festival of young girls.
Urban Colleges Writers Prize – this will be writers contest by professionals and students in colleges and universities. The project will take place for 2 years .

Introduction- Girlchildcreativity continues to bring motivation , arts inspirational activities to the people of Zimbabwe . We continue to develop girl child talent and creativity with various activities around the country. We feel the world can be better through promoting the girl child in quest for her literacy and creative endowment.

GirlchildVoices Fiesta for the 100 thousand poets for change and the celebration of girlchildcreativity through rhythm

The event took place on the 29th of September at the book cafe and was supported by Zim-gossip modelling and The Nigerian Embassy in Zimbabwe. The producer mbizo chirasha was excited to announce and curate a mix of talented artists that included poets,mbira , jazz ,traditional and Afro- fusion. Innocent Mupemba and group presented an exclusive show. Mupemba is a graduate of Pakare PAYE arts centre/KwaTUKU. Not be outdone were poets Umind, Gwangwadze, Moreblessing Size, Dvokal Poet,So profound.

Mbira music was represented by Jeslin Robin of the Taku Mafika music clan, Mbira dzavahera and not forgetting Sungura by Norrycea and Team . One unique outfit and presenting from Rudo Chasi with Afro –Jazz. The show was closed by a surprising jam session.

Audience – The audience of the day was a mixture of business people, artists, diplomats, media, university students more from Women University of Africa. The whole was mesmerizing because the audience was wonderful and following with more interest.
Pamberi Trust /Book Cafe- the cultural centre with a difference. The venue continues to offer platforms to the talented both upcoming and established. The Book Cafe remains our old and permanent friend since the inception of GirlChildCreativity Project.
Us Embassy Public Affairs- an all weather friend that have done a lot to the development of the project through Sharon Hudson Dean and her team. It is humbling that the Public Affairs provide a number of necessary things to the development of the project.

Nigerian Embassy – new partner of the Girl Child Creativity through the project Zimbabwe – Nigeria Literary Exchange which seeks to provide creative diplomacy between Nigeria and Zimbabwe and demystify the wrong perceptions on our continent . Minister Saleh of Nigerian Embassy in Zimbabwe proved to be a real cultural minister by understanding the projects undertaken by GirlchildCreativity and the Society of Nigerian Young Writers.

Zim gossip Modelling Agency- a strong beauty and grooming organisation led by Mercy Mushaninga, the Agency provided refreshments for the Media briefing.

Media– the Zimbabwean Media and the international have covered a lot of ground in providing the project visibility to the community that serves to inform people about our activities and their validity.

Funding – It always remains a critical issue though we have few friends who are offering their services and some resources but we think this noble idea requires a lot in terms of resources.

Volunteers– Kundai Archie Marunya and Simbarashe Gande are present volunteers in the project that helping in the programming of events. They deal with arts, media and operations within project and they have proved to be hardworking and serious in their work. We believe if we get resources they will do the best in developing GirlChildCreativity Project
Founder/Director- Mbizo Chirasha remains resolute in the development of the concept.

Future Events– Urban Colleges Writers Prize , Tirivanhu Mental Health Care Centre Arts extravaganza,GirlchildTalent Festival ,Zim-Nigeria Literary Exchange groundbreaking ceremony.
