Poetry and human rights in Genoa with “Bligal”, in partnership with the 100 Thousand Poets for Change (U.S.A.)

Genoa, October 8, 2012.

October 12, the day Christopher Columbus reached San Salvador (and therefore the Americas), is a day that belongs to the memory of mankind. On the Night of Poetry (which will see hundreds of artists, writers and musicians perform in Genoa’s ancient and modern buildings) the poets Roberto Malini and Daniela Malini will remember that date – a date that coincides with the extermination of the Native Americans and the destruction of their culture – through a poetry reading with poems taken from their book “Bligal of Stone and Light” (Lavinia Dickinson Editore, Genoa 2012).

“Bligal” is the celebration of the absolute value of life and the natural environment, of ancient cultures and peace,” say the poets, who are brother and sister. “During our reading, the famous mime artist, Fabio Bonelli, (who is known and respected throughout the world) will represent – through a symbolic and metaphysical interpretation – the sanctity of the relationship between humanity and the original environment. The pure voice of the young actress, Giordana Faggiano, and the guitar of the artist and human rights activist, Marcello Zuinisi, will accompany us as we read and sing poems about the priceless value of a culture of peace, friendship among peoples, non-violence, the sacredness of nature, and the slender link that brings all living beings and the physical world into harmony.”

Michael Rothenberg and Terri Carrion, founders of the global event “100 Thousand Poets for Change”, will organize an event to take place at the same time as our own reading in Genoa. The American event will take place in the town of Guerneville, where the global movement began. “We, Unicef and the Council of Europe (who are supporting the activities of the poets and human rights defenders) are proud of this twinning and of the poetic ‘journey’ that is also being held in the United States. “We are excited about this twinning”, writes Michael Rothenberg, “a day to remember, a day on which we must never forget the true legacy of Columbus, in the hope that humanity will never again undertake these journeys of conquest and genocide, but instead set out on voyages of friendship and peace. ”

Genova. Bligal a Palazzo Imperiale: performance di poesia totale

Genoiva, 14 ottobre 2012.
