100 TPC Visits Morocco, Italy & Macedonia – Part 1

IMG_1790The idea to travel across the oceans to meet 100 TPC organizer poets, artists and musicians who have been actively involved since 2011 seemed more like a wild fantasy than something we could actually pull off. Yet, due to the kindness and generosity of people all around the world, we (Michael, Terri and Steve) were able to visit with a whole bunch of amazing human beings…in Morocco, Italy and Macedonia…there is a very, very long story to tell about this entire experience, so it might take awhile…

…I begin here… we leave Santa Rosa, CA and on April 29th we arrive in NYC and stay the night in Brooklyn.

We spent the next day at the Circus Warehouse with Suzi Winson.

Circus Warehouse is a professional school for circus arts and a serious training ground for high level international circus performers.

Suzi is also Founder/Director of Art and Circuses Gallery.

CW has participated in 100 TPC since 2011 with an amazing project, Aerial Texts Experiments in which trapeze and other aerial  and performing artists collaborate with poets and musicians to create an unbelievable work of moving art!

Poetry, painting and trapeze? Yes, that is correct, and it is just the kind of thing 100 TPC is about! Mixing it up, pushing artistic boundaries and expanding creative expression through collaboration!

Suzi and Michael have known eachother for 15 years.

Suzi & Michael have been friends for 15 years.

Suzi greeted us with much needed bagels, cream cheese and lox (Thank you!) and we ate in a space full of beautiful paintings done by artist Abbie Winson, Suzi’s mother, who recently passed away. Abbie also participated in Aerial Text Experiments in 2011. Her caligraphic action painting was projected on a backdrop while aerialists flowed across the darkness and light…merging with the projections of Winson’s energetic work.

It was a great joy to catch up with Suzi and share!

We sat out in the warehouse, on the zebra print futon, for a few hours, just watching all the beautiful bodies fly and hang around.

What a great place! It was an honor to meet the students and teachers.

We didn’t want to leave, but  needed to get to airport to get on our flight to Rome…so we reluctantly said goodbye and grabbed a taxi…Part 2 coming soon!
