Dear Friends of The Boreal Poetry Garden,
It’s your turn again!
On Saturday September 27 at 3 pm (rain date, Sunday the 28th at 3 pm) I will be holding the second ‘open mic’ at The Boreal Poetry Garden as one of over 800 events taking place in 115 countries around the world for 100 Thousand Poets and Musicians for Change:
This is an international celebration and demonstration of the arts as a nurturer of change, and the ‘open mic’ at The Boreal Poetry Garden is the only event being held in Newfoundland & Labrador.
Donations will be collected for the Brother Brennan Environmental Education Centre –– a non-profit residential outdoor school near the Salmonier Nature Park in the Avalon Forest Ecoregion, dedicated to helping school children connect to the natural environment so they will learn to love it and want to protect it.  We raised over $500 last year by passing the hat.  I hope we can do it again.
On our walk around The Boreal Poetry Garden, you are invited to contribute up to 5 minutes of poetry, music, song, performance, dance, or story-telling in celebration of the environment.  It could be inspired by a species of wildlife, trees or wildflowers, a landform, or the weather; it could be a rant or a roar about a pressing ecological issue.
It could be written or composed by you, or a favourite item by someone else.
You can present it at a spot of your choice –– amongst the trees, or along the Blast Hole Pond River. (And you know there will be a small bonfire, some marshmallows to toast, and refreshments at the end of the walk.)
If you have a drum, please bring it.  We will also have a short drumming circle led by Katie Power.
I’m hoping to bring people together who care about the environment and would like to express it in some way.  I believe that the arts has a valuable role to play in change.  Please let me know if you would like to be part of this event.  I hope you will.
RSVP by Saturday September 20th to confirm that you’d like to participate.
Yours,
Marlene
