QUEENSBURY – The SUNY Adirondack Writers Project will be participating in “100 Thousand Poets for Change,” a global event scheduled for Sat., Sept. 28, and organized by a grassroots organization which brings artists and communities together to call for social, environmental, and political change within a framework of peace and sustainability.

The local event will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in SUNY Adirondack’s visual Arts Gallery in Dearlove Hall on the Queensbury campus and will center on the theme of Peace and Sustainability. The event is free and the public is invited.

The event will feature SUNY Adirondack poets, students, and published poets from the Warren, Washington and Saratoga County area, including Paul Pines, Barbara Louise Ungar, Nancy White, Stuart Bartow, Rob Faivre, Kathleen McCoy, and others.

Local organizer P. Kathleen McCoy, professor of English at SUNY Adirondack, says this is the first time SUNY Adirondack has been involved in the event. Over 520 other events will be held world-wide on that day in conjunction with 100 Thousand Poets for Change.

This year will mark the third year of this global movement, which began with poets but has become a coalition of poets, musicians, painters, mimes, dancers, and photographers from around the world.

The Writers Project provides SUNY Adirondack students and residents of Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties with exposure to nationally renowned writers, provides up-and-coming writers with a venue for reading, and supports fledgling writers with workshops and writers’ retreats.

The Writers Project is made possible with assistance from the Faculty Student Association of ACC, the ACC Foundation, the SUNY Adirondack English Division, and SUNY Adirondack with initial funding and support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

For more information on the 100 Thousand Poets for Change program, please contact Dr. P. Kathleen McCoy, professor of English, at 743.2200, extension 2618 or via email at mccoyk@sunyacc.edu.
