Come join us for the Tallahassee installment of the “100 Thousand Poets for Change” readings held around the world on September 27, 2014!

Featuring work by the activists, educators, travelers, and writers Cecilia Llompart, Lauren Freeman, Lo Poholek, Ron Salutsky, & Steven Pérez.

A bit more about the readers:

Steven Perez has earned a BA in Literature and is a member of the band grounded.

Lauren Freeman is an undergraduate in the Creative Writing department at FSU. Her writing is largely concerned with bodies and desire.

Lo Poholek is a creative writing student at Florida State University. She attempts to rationalize life through poetry, and focuses her work on the concepts of destruction and flesh.

Ron Paul Salutsky is the author of Romeo Bones (Steel Toe Books, 2013), and a native Kentuckian whose poetry and fiction have appeared in Narrative, Colorado Review, and elsewhere. Ron earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, and a PhD in English from Florida State University. He is for change.

Cecilia Llompart is a poet, translator, and educator from Puerto Rico. Her first collection, The Wingless, was published in 2014 by Carnegie Mellon University Press. Her poems have also appeared in TriQuarterly, The Caribbean Writer, and WomenArts Quarterly Review, and can be found online on poets.org. Most recently, she has served as guest editor for Matter: A Journal of Political Poetry and Commentary. She likes to raise awareness about how difficult it is to support oneself as a working artist, and will give a poetry reading to anyone who will donate their time.

A bit more about the movement:

100 Thousand Poets for Change is an international grassroots educational organization focusing on the arts–especially poetry, music, and the literary arts–that focuses on a world-wide event each September. Literary event organizers volunteer to host associated events in their own cities or schools, and 700 events in 550 cities in 95 countries occurred in the very first year of the movement. Help keep this alive in Tallahassee!
