LOCATION: 19 Broadway
TIME: 2-5pm

3 Hours – in downtown Fairfax, CA — 17 Broadway
(runs parallel to Sir Francis Drake)
Part of the largest poetry event in history ever!
Now in its third year!
Performers
Margaret Stawowy
Margaret Stawowy grew up on the south side of Chicago, before living in California and Japan. As a child, she was known for blurting secrets, and that is probably why she gravitated toward poetry. She also has difficulty telling a convincing lie, unless it is the only way to arrive at a truth. She is a lover of peace, humanity, the environment, books, and art, and has poems forthcoming in Memoir Journal and the Marin Poetry Center Anthology.
Prartho Sereno
Inveterate gypsy—hailing from New York, the Midwest, New England, Maharashtra India (where she studied meditation for 4 years), the Northwest, and both Southern and Northern California—Prartho Sereno recently returned from yet another fool’s errand (an MFA in Poetry) that put her in the heart of the hinterlands of Syracuse, NY for the past 3 years.
Newly degreed, she has happily returned to the glorious Bay Area to resume teaching poem-making in the local schools and at the College of Marin. Her poetry collections include Call from Paris, (winner of the 2007 Word Works’ Washington Prize, and due out in a second edition this winter), an illustrated gift-collection, Causing a Stir: The Secret Lives & Loves of Kitchen Utensils (winner of a 2008 IPPY), and a chapbook from Finishing Line Press, Garden Sutra.. She is also author of a book of personal essays, Everyday Miracles: An A to Z Guide to the Simple Wonders of Life (Kensington, 1998).
Andrea Freeman
Andrea Freeman is a naturalist, poet, artist, teacher, harpist, and mystic. She is a dedicated peace activist and advocate for the rights of nature, the preservation of biodiversity, and the cultivation of compassion and expanded consciousness. Much of her poetry is inspired by nature and her experiences in the natural world. She teaches field-based classes in the natural sciences and nature awareness. Her two albums of Celtic harp music have been distributed internationally and she has played on the soundtrack for two documentary films.
The DVD she produced, called “H2Ode,” which is a poetic and pictorial celebration of water and all the roles it plays on our beautiful blue planet is being utilized in environmental education programs in the schools. Her poetry has been published in the United States and in Europe. The Infinite Song, an allegorical creation-myth story/poem that she wrote and illustrated, has just been released as a book.
Martin Hickel
Martin lives between the watersheds of San Pablo Bay and Tomales-Drake Bay near the Pacific Coast. He hosts a poetry series in Sausalito, and is active at Viracocha in the San Francisco Mission District.
Don Alberts
Don Alberts is more than a pianist, more a piano stylist in the finest and most classical tradition of Jazz. His style is reminiscent of the dignity and panache of Duke Ellington and the eloquence of Bill Evans, yet clearly contemporary, and clearly his own. He is also a prolific poet and author. Among his published works:
The Rushing: Manbaby and the Crooked Road to the Big Time, Absolute Time, Don Alberts Original Jazz Compositions Vol. 8, Don Alberts Original Jazz Compositions Vol. 9, Small Unrested Desires, and Ancient Warrior
Dana Alberts (Minus One)
Dana Alberts, Singer/Songwriter, Punk Rock Veteran. Formed “Minus One,” a seminal skate rock band which has released two albums. Dana continues to write music, lyric poetry, and performs with his band. His new album, “No Sign of Angels,” has just been released by DC-Jam Records.
Anita Erola
Anita Erola was born in Lahti, Finland, and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since age ten. She graduated from San Francisco State University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art, photography emphasis.
Anita is a member of Poetry Farm (Novato, CA). The group has published six volumes of members’ works. Her writings appear in Poetry Farmers’ Almanac, Volumes II, III, IV, V and VI. Anita’s personal memoir “Finnish Blueberries” appeared in Kippis! (Summer 2009, Volume 1, No. 2). She is currently working on a memoir about her experiences moving to the United States.
Rev. Joey Talley
The Reverend Jo Ellen Michelle Talley is a Minister of the Wiccan Way.
Dee Allen
African-Italian poetry writer/Spoken Word performer based in San Francisco. Allen has been doing creative writing since childhood, but it wasn’t until his early twenties that he decided to get serious with it. For two decades, he has performed his original written work live and is now a member of Poor Magazine’s Po’ Poets Project and the Revolutionary Poets Brigade. Similarly, Allen’s work has appeared in numerous underground ‘zines, newsletters, newspapers and webzines since the early 1990s, such as Struggle, Indigo, Rosebleed, Flipside [ R.I.P. ], Haight-Ashbury Literary Journal, Street Sheet, Street Spirit, People’s Tribune, The Burning Spear, Poor Magazine, Synchronized Chaos and Modesto Anarcho. Allen’s work now appears in Revolutionary Poets Brigade: Volume 1, published by Caza De Poezia; and in his first book Boneyard. And also in his newest addition, Unwritten Law: Poems [1994-2011].
Cathyrn Shea
Cathryn Shea’s poetry has appeared in Margie, Gargoyle, Blue Fifth Review, Quiddity, Quercus, Sierra Nevada Review, Soundings East, Poet Lore and Poem, among others. Cathryn has a chapbook, “Snap Bean,” forthcoming from CC Marimbo in January 2014. She is a merit finalist for the Atlanta Review’s 2013 International Poetry Competition, and was included in the 2012 anthology “Open to Interpretation: Intimate Landscape.” In 2004, she received the Marjorie J. Wilson Award judged by Charles Simic. Cathryn served as editor for Marin Poetry Center Anthology, and currently works as a principal technical writer at Oracle. She lives in Fairfax, CA with her husband George. She is a fourth-generation Californian, having grown up and lived in Northern California most of her life.
Malcolm MacDonald
Malcolm Macdonald was born into the blazing autumn of New Hampshire’s high mountain country, and is a musician, poet, philosopher, and entranced with the arts that heal since early teens. Malcolm has enjoyed calling the muses with John Denver and George Harrison. Both have been an awesome inspiration to this day in understanding the waves of our world cultures, and in calling the muses that touch us with magic and the feeling of poetry as the launching pad for music.
Malcolm has also been profoundly inspired by the works of Yogananda, the silence of the snowy woods, and the joy of experiencing everyone in this Spirit. He lives nestled in the redwoods of northern California with his wonderful wife and two marvelous boys, writing poetry, songwriting, and billowing the arts of healing in the world.
